Offense ... ive?

Maybe only true Broncos fans get this way ... or maybe this proves that I'm not the Optimist I purport myself to be ... I dunno.

Anyway, after last night's win, C and I walked down the ramps at Mile High to chants of "Raiders suck! Raiders suck!" (As an aside, I have to admit I find that to be a pathetic cheer, - but one I apparently can't change ... see Red Wings and Avalanche, for instance.) Anyway - everyone around us was THRILLED with the Broncos win. Except me. Oh, sure, I enjoyed watching the Broncos defense shut down the Raiders running game, and of course I got giddy when the crowd was so loud that poor Raiders QB Walter had to call timeout instead of an audible. But deep down, my stomach was in knots and my brow furrowed with a plaintive "Why?"

At the end of every home game, the stadium folks put up a message on the big scoreboard about the next home game - and maybe those words, more than any further exposition from me, will better explain my trepidation:

"Next Broncos home game - October 29 vs. Indianapolis."

Uhh, folks? How does this Broncos offense think they can outperform Indy's offense? How long can we expect the powerhouse defense to save the team every week? How long until it's too long and some key defensive player gets hurt from so much game time? When will the offense stop depending so much on this season's #1 scorer, Jason Elam? What will it take to get the machine to gear into a good rev?

Not very optimistic? Maybe not. Ok - how's this then? At least the Broncos get to test some offense out on the Cleveland Browns this Sunday.

Browns = Guinea Pigs? I certainly hope so.
